THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SULLIVAN COUNTY

         Wanda Boes
When Wanda Boes passed, Wanda's husband Gene requested donations be made to "The Wanda Boes Animal Benefit Fund", in lieu of flowers.  Donations added up and Gene Boes of Carlisle decided to do something to honor the memory of his late wife, an animal lover, by trying to get a humane shelter built.  Working with the county's longtime Animal Control Officer and protective Animal League worker Shirley Cox, his brother, County Commissioner Jim Boes, and recently retired veterinarian Allen Lueking, a plan was formulated.  Gene attended a County Commissioners meeting, getting a committee formed to start the process.  Gene filed for the 501(c)(3) status.  He managed to get the not-for-profit status passed in 6 months.  Grants were filed and donations came in many forms.  As a result, this summer the animal shelter that Gene Boes visualized will be come a reality.  I'm sure Wanda is proud of Gene!
